the Parks driveways and parking spots are made of crushed shell for absorbancy and a more natural look. Over time, the shells will break down to make for a very solid driving and walking surface. Using crushed shell in this manner also benefits everyone as they also serve as a deterrent of many pests.
There are two beach entrances to the ocean from the Park. Please help us with the preservation of the natural dune ecosystem and its native vegetation that is critical to protecting both natural and manmade coastal landscapes by not walking on the dunes themselves. No littering is allowed so please pick up after one another. There are many native plants as well to be seen such as sea grapes, saw palmetto,Searockets, Beach sunflowers, Beach morning glory, cactus and sea oats with other mixed salt-spray tolerant grasses and herbs.Sea oats are also legally protected so please do not pick them.Seaweed also helps maintain the dunes and rejuvinate the beaches. There is nothing like the ocean air to breathe new life into you!
Sea turtle nesting season is May 1st through October 31st.
Each year,We've seen many sea turtle nests laid and hatch on our beach and you may too during one of your many stays with us! It's a sight you'll never forget!
During this time tho, we ask that you please keep your blinds down and porch lights out at night being that we are directly on the beach and that is mainly when the sea turtles are most active. Ground lighting is fine but please ask one of our staff members first if you have any questions. If a light can be seen from the beach then it disorientates the turtles and is also a violation of the ordinance. Each summer on Volusia County beaches, sea turtles will slowly start to lay nests. Approximately 48-60 days after the nests will begin to hatch. Please do not disturb the nests or turtles, it's the law.no flashlights are permitted as well on the beach during the nesting season. We provide special turtle friendly flashlights by request at the hotel office.
Every year , from December to early March, Right Whales make their way to the waters off Volusia County to have their babies and teach them how to be whales. Be sure to bring your binoculars if you come during this time! You'll also see dolphins offshore all year long...so enjoy a cup of coffee in the morning and watch them play. you'll see many other native wildlife as well from birds to crabs.
Fishing is allowed on the beach with a license. Many come to fish and we have more info on what times and kind of fish are running on our website. While fishing you must be 50 feet away from any swimmers.
